I wrote an article a few months ago about the collectability of Flesh and Blood, and the higher end market. I also referenced the $12 per box average price increase, and what that means for sales of singles and boxes. Holy crap was I wrong. The demand for this set has far exceeded anything we have seen in the past, and we believe this is possibly going to be the best release we have ever seen.
Fresh out of the Prague airport we reached out to casual and professional players alike. The general consensus is that this set is a hit. The limited environment seems fairly balanced, the art is amazing, the higher end cards look cool, and are actually playable. It even has a Command and Conquer reprint! I believe the Hunted will be loved by both new and entrenched players alike.
In a few short days, we will make the trek to Memphis, Tennessee for the first Calling, sorry, the first TWO Callings of the US Calendar year. LSS has decided to allow the vendors attending this event to provide singles on Thursday night in preparation for the event. This is a massive and an extremely forward-thinking approach to an event of this magnitude. We as a store are attempting to meet the potential demand for this set in a very limited time. We ask that you think of your fellow players when placing orders for Memphis, considering the timing and demand for this event. Pre-orders are now live, and will stay up until Tuesday night the 28th. At that time, pre-orders for Memphis will be turned off, but we will have cards available from The Hunted during the weekend also.
I would like to make it crystal clear that we do NOT believe that these cards will remain at these prices long term. These prices reflect the very limited nature of the situation, and the availability of product today. There is no reason to believe that this set will not be available for a very long time at the distribution, and store level. That being said, the average case price has gone up almost $50. You cannot compare a Hunted box to an Outsiders box. Prices will be higher on average due to the increased cost. At the same time, opening boxes over the next few months will probably look comparable to singles, until the market levels out and singles are available everywhere. I would also like to point out that the most expensive cards in this set have extremely cheap alternatives such as the Arakni tokens, and continuing to play with Sink Below/Fate Foreseen over Shelter the Storm. Long term, most cards will settle in price far below the day one price. There most likely will be cards that start to see more play and will continue to go up, as The Weakest Link did.

This is the first time since Monarch that box prices are starting to trend above the absolute bare minimum stores are able to list product, and that’s a good thing both for the stores that host Armory nights, and the players who decide to play with these cards. Happy Hunting, and we can’t wait to see you in Memphis, or another event soon!
